 John Marshall ClarkDENISON; John Marshall Clark rode out into the sunset of this life in love with Marilyn, his one and only love of 63 years by his side, and at home on Friday, Dec 18th. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, on Aug. 24,1936. to John G. and Anne Clair who preceded him into heaven along with his brother, Robert, to welcome him into the place prepared for them by the Savior and Lord. Jesus Christ. John was a real man in the John Wayne sense of the word; strong and confident; quiet and gentle; tough and tender. Although he was a rugged individual, he was part of the body of Christ who understood that Jesus was his example and his guide He loved his God, wife, family and friends as their patriarch. His values were simple, straightforward and passed down to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others whom he helped or influenced in his’ years. “Do unto others as you would have them do un you.” Said another way; treat people the way you want to be treated. Although he will be missed, his legacy lives on through the many people he touched.John Clark is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters D’Anne Lee, Amy Taylor and husband, Wes, Carol Thornton and husband, Lee of Denison; and ten beloved grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.A celebration of John’s life will be held on Monday Dec. 28, at 3 p.m. in Hyde Park Presbyterian Church located at 1708 Hyde Park Avenue in Denison, TX 75021. | Delores Anne Adams Keith, 79, passed away in Corsicana, Texas on Tuesday March 31, 2015. Delores was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 10, 1936 to James Gale and Margaret (Clintelle) Adams. She grew up in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954. On October 17, 1977 she married Guy Ross Keith, and they made their home in Corsicana. Dee held many jobs during her life so that she could support her four children. Her happiest moments were when she could be gathered with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her love through crocheting of multiple afghans for her family. Dee was a very spiritual woman and was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by sons Paul Hinman and wife, Melissa, and Stephen Hinman and wife, Andrea; daughter: Deborah Bamburg and husband, Arnold and Colleen Woodcock and husband, Dwayne; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one brother, James Gale Adams, Jr. and wife, Arla. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Guy Ross Keith. Technical help could not get him to the place that he could sustain himself and was on 100% oxygen. He was well taken care of at Covenant and given as much help with his breathing and comfort as was possible.Would you please let the people you know about in Lubbock who would want to know that he has passed away have this information. | Lubbock Avalanche Journal October 8, 2013Wayne Watkins CALERA, OK- Wayne Watkins left this earthly life and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Oct. 4, 2013. He was born in Lubbock on May 10, 1936 to William L. Red and Tommie Watkins. He graduated from Lubbock High in 1954, and lived many years in the Lubbock and Idalou areas. He later moved to Sherman, Texas, Tazewell, Va., and then on to Calera, Okla. He loved his Lord dearly and was very active in church activities and church work his entire life. He was a welder and pipefitter by profession. His family includes his precious wife, Patty; two sons, Steve and wife Lori of Plano, and Jeff of Big Springs; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Ashley, Leah, and Amanda; and eight great-grandchildren. | Lubbock Avalanche Journal September 20, 2013 Marilyn Joyce PruittLUBBOCK-Marilyn Joyce Pruitt, age 77, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, with family by her side. She was born to the late James Harvie Pruitt and Evelyn Grey (McDonald) Pruitt on Feb. 23, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas. Joyce, a 1954 graduate of Lubbock HighSchool, obtained her BS degree in physical education from Abilene Christian College in 1958. She was awarded several additional graduate degrees: M.Ed., Texas Tech (1962), Ph.D., Physical Education, Texas Women’s University (1968), and Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas, in 1980. Her Ph.D. graduate work included data on female measurements, which was used by the Air Force in designing uniforms. Education was very important to Joyce, and she was especially proud of following her father Jim’s footsteps at Texas Tech, himself a member of Tech’s first football team. She was a respected teacher and coach. Her teaching career included positions at Lamesa High School, Milby High School, Lubbock Christian High School, Joshua High School, and Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo. During her coaching career, she led Lamesa’s girls to the 1960-61 Volleyball State Championship. Following graduation from Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Dr. Pruitt returned to Lubbock to open her practice, Lubbock Chiropractic Center. She treated patients at this location for over 25 years. Family and friends were Joyce’s passion and delight. One of six children, Joyce was close to her siblings and their families. She spent most holidays with her extended family. Her generous spirit and quick wit made her a favorite with 14 nieces and nephews, along with their spouses and children. Joyce was an active member of the Shadow Hills ladies’ golf group. She loved the game of golf and spent most of her retirement playing with friends and family, even scoring a hole-in-one. Other hobbies included her dogs, yard work, and woodworking. Marilyn Joyce Pruitt was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Pruitt and Bill Pruitt; a sister, Faye Pruitt; two sisters-in-law, Cherolyne Pruitt and Opal Pruitt; and one brother-in-law, Jimmie Scott. She is survived by her brother, Harvie Pruitt of Lubbock and his wife Charis; and a sister, Pat (Pruitt) Scott of Edmond, Okla. Other survivors include 14 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and a host of devoted great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind numerous close friends. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Combest Family Funeral Homes. The funeral service will be held at her home congregation, the Sunset Church of Christ on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 1 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff at Carillon and Gracie from Odyssey Hospice, who made the last few weeks of life easier for her. LAFAYETTE – A Funeral Ceremony will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Sara Beth Sides, 77, who died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at her residence in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Chris Blanchard of Covenant Methodist Church in Lafayette will officiate.
Sara was born Friday, March 13, 1936 in Lubbock, TX and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. She was an active member of Covenant Methodist Church in Lafayette and a Life Masters Bridge Player and member of Acadiana Duplicate Bridge Club of Lafayette. She will be deeply missed by her children, family and friends.
Mrs. Sides is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Sides and his wife Janice of Lafayette and James Sides and his wife Sally of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Karen Sides of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Matthew Sides, Robert Williamson and his wife Skye, Christopher Williamson, Michael Sides and Alexandra Sides; four great grandchildren, Jeffrey Williamson, Preston Williamson, Benjamin Williamson and Lillian Williamson and one niece, Beverly O’Dell of Lubbock, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, King James Sides Jr.; father, Henry Gordon; mother, Edgar Lorraine Gordon; two sisters, Frances Green and Jane Cole.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 8:00 am until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Sides, Jim Sides, Michael Sides, Matthew Sides, Robert Williamson and Christopher Williamson.
Honorary Bearers are her grandsons, Jeffrey Williamson and Preston Williamson.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Sara and her family.

May 17, 2013Donny Mc Carroll LUBBOCK- Donny Mc Carroll, 77, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013. He was born May 4, 1936 in Estelline, Texas to Jessie and Jewel Carroll. Donny graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954 and worked for Merchants Fast Motor Lines until his retirement. He married Donna Faye Cannon on Feb. 21, 1957 and they worked together to build a loving Christian family. He coached Little League baseball from the minor leagues through Babe Ruth. His was a member of the Thunderbird Club, Nifty-Fifty’s Car Club, Mustang Club and the Corvette Club. He is survived by his wife, Donna Faye; sons, Brent Carroll (Carole) and Rodney Carroll (Pam); daughters, Kim Mann (Gilbert), Sabrina Belt (Chris) and Monique Beebe (Brian); 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Jimmie Chambliss and Roma Matheus (Delbert). April 9, 2013.Marilyn Chesher Lynch , beloved wife, mother, sister and friend passed away Saturday evening, April 6th, at Methodist Hospital. Marilyn was 76 years old and is survived by Joe, her husband of 54 years and her sons Bryan, Brad and David and their wives respectively Angela, Ginger and Christina. Grand Children include Laura, Cameron, Kyle, Sam and Owen. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Bill Johnson and their children Jana, Julie and Paul and their families.
Marilyn Lynch, was a member of Kapa Alpha Theta, attended Texas Tech University and Texas Christian University.
She was a member of the Houston Junior Forum, serving as Sustainer President. She was also active in P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization).
Marilyn began here service to the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association twenty-five years ago as the KAO delegate, served as HAPA President, HAPF President, and is now an Honorary Board Member Emeritus. In 1982 Marilyn felt that HAPA could contribute to the community and with her leadership, a partnership with Spring Branch Elementary School was formed. For over twenty years HAPA has helped fund the purchase of books that are distributed to each child through the “Reading is Fundamental” program.
Marilyn served as a District Officer for Theta for twenty years and worked with the Theta Foundation for ten years, including serving as President. The Theta Foundation has named a scholarship in her honor.

Carla Maxey Elliott LUBBOCK-Carla Maxey Elliott, 77, passed away Saturday April 6, 2013, in Lubbock. She was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Lubbock to Homer and Melba Maxey. Carla was a graduate of Lubbock High School, attended Texas Tech, and had a long career as a nurse. She was devoted to her family and was an avid Texas Tech fan! November 23, 2012Patti Hill King Patti King passed away on November 20, 2012, ending a long and difficult struggle with COPD. She was born in Lubbock, Texas, on April 21, 1936, to parents Elizabeth and J. Culver Hill. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954 and Texas Tech University in 1958, where she met and married Richard King. Patti and Dick enjoyed their lives, living in Southern California and in Connecticut, and several places in Texas, most recently Austin for the last 35 years. They also travelled extensively in Europe as well as Mexico and Canada. They particularly enjoyed their motorhome trips, many with their grandchildren. Patti retained many close friends from her days at Lubbock High School. She also kept friends from college and participated for 50 years in a Round Robin letter with 4 old friends. She was heavily involved in Republican politics and was particularly proud of her role in the Ronald Reagan campaigns. Patti is survived by her husband Richard, her son Richard, Jr. and his wife Lan June of University Place, Washington, her daughter Leslie Baker and her husband Jamie of Austin, and her grandchildren Brielle, Rebekah, Anneka and Danek King, and Bo Baker, and her brother Rodney Hill and his wife Sue of College Station. KIM M. LOVELESS
Kim M. Loveless, 78, Weatherby Lake, Mo., passed away August 23, 2012, at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital with his family at his side. Kim was born to Ernest and Edith (Prine) Loveless on Oct. 20, 1933, in Abernathy, Texas. He was united in marriage to Nancy (Abbott) on June 25, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas. Kim graduated from Texas Technological College with a degree in Psychology in 1957. He joined the Navy entering Flight Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla., and earned his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1958. Kim served in the Navy for eight years, including two cruises to the eastern Pacific on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) in VF-191 and completed his active duty in VF- 124. During his Naval career he flew a number of aircraft including the T-34B (Mentor), T-28 (Trojan), T2V (Seastar), F9F-8 (Cougar), F8U (Crusader) and the Douglas F5D. After the Navy, Kim began his career with Trans World Airlines as a line pilot flying the Lockheed Constellation, and as Captain he flew the Convair 880, Douglas DC-9, McDonnell Douglas MD- 80, Boeing 707, Boeing 727 and Lockheed L-1011. He served as a Flight Instructor, a Check Pilot and a Line Check Airman in addition to serving in Management. He also found time to enjoy his passion in private life flying the Aeronco 7KCAB (Citabria) and Laister Kaufman LK-10 Glider and the Cessna 182. Kim was a member of the ANA (Association of Naval Aviation), Sell Or Buy Investment Club, Weatherby Lake Sailing Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Around Thirties Sunday School Class. He was on the organizing board for Wings over Mid America which later became known as Angel Flight Central. He was also an organizing member of the Weatherby Lake Park Board, as well as the Heartland Walk to Emmaus. Kim was a Lay Member to the Missouri United Methodist Conference, and served in various Administrative capacities at Platte Woods United Methodist Church. Survivors include wife, Nancy of the home; sons, W. Kurt Loveless, DDS, and wife Paula of Lubbock, and Kris M. Loveless and wife Dee of Liberty, Mo., and Barbara Loveless, widow of son, D. Keith Loveless; sisters, Ernestine Dobbins and husband Marvin of Lubbock, and Geneva Tarkenton of Mineral Wells, Texas; brother, Newell Loveless and wife Joy of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kolin Loveless and wife Hillary, Kelsea Loveless, Karleigh Loveless, Eric Dunn, Brandon Dunn and wife Amy, and Keith Loveless; great-grandchild, Channing Dunn. Kim was preceded in death by his parents and son, D. Keith Loveless. She started the day off with a low heart rate and blood pressure and continued to decline throughout the day. I had made arrangements with hospice as it was evident this was it. We never got the chance to move her, like always, she did things her way in spite of all my good planning!It was a peaceful passing, I am glad her suffering is over. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and no services. If anyone wishes to do anything, please make a donation to benefit breast cancer or better yet…. just be kind to someone today.

April 17, 2012Dear Friends,It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Steve passed away Sunday morning. The devastating cancer claimed his body but never his mind or his spirit.
He donated his body to OU Medical School and memorial donations are being sent to Stephenson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 26901, 6th floor, Oklahoma City, Ok., 73126-0901.
We have requested that all donations sent in his name be targeted toward research being done there on rhabdomyosarcoma. There is a clinical trial going on right now related to that dreaded form of cancer which claimed Steve’s life. Only 200 people each year are diagnosed with it and most of them are children. Steve wanted his experience to be used to defeat rhabdo so that children will not have to sufrer what he suffered.
The memorial service will be Fri. at 2:00 at Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee.
His obituary will be in the Muskogee Phoenix, Wed. Ap. 18th.
Blessing to all of you. Our family is devastated but will carry on in the spirit that Steve lived, with humor and love.

Mr. Alred passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in Denver City. He was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Lubbock, Texas, to Ruth (Rountree) and J.A. Alred. He married Peggy Marlar on Sept. 8, 1956, in Lorenzo, Texas. Mr. Alred had resided in Denver City since 1979, moving from Coyonosa, Texas. He worked as a plant operator for El Paso Natural Gas for 31 years. Mr. Alred was well-known for his cabinetry and woodworking. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Denver City, where he served as a deacon, and was very active in the men’s Sunday school class and the adult choir. He was a member of the Texas Baptist Men s Association and a volunteer for a year at My Father s House in Lubbock. Jimmy Alred was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sheila, in 1994; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Alred of Denver City, Texas; one son, David Alred of Denver City, Texas; two daughters, Shelli Nix of Boerne, Texas, and Stacy Green and husband Jeff of Abilene, Texas; one sister, Ruth Keltz and husband Shannon of Lubbock, Texas; and four grandchildren.

I hope this is the right place to inform LHS Class of 1954 of My Mother’s passing.I’m Betty Lou Hadaway-Tabet’s son, Jim Sloan. My mother graduated with the class of 1954.She passed away at her home in Belen, NM Feb. 19th 2012. She had been ill for several years. Her funeral was February 23, 2012.
She was laid to rest at the Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens

Ms. Frances “Sissy” Ponce passed away in her sleep last Friday, January 6th, at Lakeridge Nursing Center in Lubbock. She was my mother’s best friend for over 74 years, a wonderful godmother, the best x-ray tech the VA ever had, a member of St. Paul’s Church, and a proud Westerner, Class of ’54.
As of today, Jan. 9th, arrangements are pending with Combest Funeral Home, Lubbock.
A day will not go by that we will not think about her and miss her.

Dear Family and Friends, some of you all will receive this message a couple of times. Here goes.
On the 4th of August, Royalyn was operated on for lung cancer. The left lobe was removed along with the lymph nodes. All came out perfect. No spread of the cancer. After 7 days in the hospital we came home. All was well. She was getting stronger and breathing well.
Sunday, the 14th about 5PM Royalyn began to become disoriented and could not use her hands. I took her to the emergency room and they started hooking her up again to all wires and tubes. At 7PM she was taken to the bathroom to give a urine sample. Royalyn then had a seizure and later a stroke. The doctor was not quite sure which came first. She fell December 2nd while walking from the parking lot to the entrance at Cracker Barrel. She was in U. M. C. Hospital for several days – 14 stitches in her head and a very badly broken and shattered arm. She then went to a rehab hospital (forgotten which one) and now is at Carillon. She has had problems with her balance for quite some time which probably caused the fall. Also, she has a chronic and severe anemia problem. I know she would appreciate cards, notes, phone calls, etc.

He was in surgery a long time, and after getting into recovery he had a leak somewhere. They took him back into surgery, opened him up again, and repaired the leak. I think he had 10-11 hours total in surgery. I checked with Barbaratoday. He is being moved into a room and is evidently doing okay. He is in Lubbock Heart Hospital on North Loop 289.

“People often get recognized for their contributions when they’re gone and everybody else gets in on the story. In this case, in the rock and roll of his work in coordinating the award winning critical arts reviews on sandiego.com, we’re taking a short pause to talk about the fellow that got this part of our site started, grew it to the great resource it is. He continues to lead the team and the arts community in San Diego has noticed, by commenting on reviews on the site and other means – inspiring spirited exchanges like that following his review of “The Treatment” at Moxie Theater or by “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” at the Old Globe. Those long involved in San Diego Arts like the Artistic Director of Balboa Park’s Old Globe, Tony award winning Jack O’Brien, noted Welton’s impact over the years at this year’s San Diego Critics Circle awards ceremony (Jan 21, 2007) “I see Welton [Jones] out there, who was the first critic here to review me: he carved his initials on SEVERAL parts of my body and I have the scars to prove it….”

Welton Jones started his long and distinguished career at the lowest possible rung of the ladder of journalism: as a paperboy in junior high school. In high school, he was called a good writer but considered himself to be more of a story teller.
After graduating from Lubbock High School, he started college at Texas A&M in the fall of 1954 and majored in journalism as a compromise. Having never written for a newspaper, he went to work for The Texas A&M Battalion before even registering with the college, earning $5 the first month. The summer of 1956 he worked for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and for the Houston Post the next summer of 1957 before his senior year. That year he was up for Editor of the Battalion. When he didn’t get that, he decided to write about theater and taught himself how.
He was rated 1A in the draft but followed his girlfriend to New York City. He worked fulltime as a copy boy at the New York Herald Tribune in the fall of 1958 for three or four months. The future scion of theater critics in San Diego must have given a thumbs down to New York and joined the US Coast Guard in the fall of 1958. He made Ensign in February of 1959. While stationed in Juneau, Alaska he had a daughter, Diana. After leaving the Coast Guard, he returned to Texas and went to work for the Houston Post. He worked the police beat as a result of working an all-nighter and soon rose to be the senior police reporter. All the time he was describing the police blotter, though, he aspired to the entertainment post. During that time he co-founded a local theater group. He resigned from the paper, went broke, and had a son, Welton III, all in 1961. He moved to Shreveport in late 1961 and was hired for the entertainment beat . His first review was of the Shreveport Opera doing “Lakme!”, and began to pay off his debts. The Coast Guard Reserve recalled him to NYC which began what became an annual trip to the city.
In 1965, he joined the San Diego Union as the Sunday department entertainment staff writer, writing reviews daily, continuing what he started eight years earlier. He held the reviewer’s post from 1965 until 1971, missing his annual trek to New York. He took the post of entertainment editor in 1972, although he got no extra pay. He resumed his New York trips, though. He became the official theater critic for the Union in 1984. The Union merged with the Tribune and Welton became the Critic-at-large in 1994, a post he kept until retirement in 1999.
In 2000, he began writing for this site, sandiego.com. He’s been instrumental in pulling together a team of erudite, enthusiastic and dedicated writers that cover nearly all of the professional performances in town, winning wards in both 2006 and 2007 as the dominant arts reviewing group in the city. As of October 2007, just a few months ago, Welton’s been on the job for 50 years and he’s still going strong and not just writing and leading the review team at sandiego.com.
His theatre activities include: Passion play tour, Galveston Little Theater, started Juneau Little Theatre, started Major Productions Inc. (went broke). Still corresponds with one actress from that company. Shreveport helped form a couple companies; directed The “Boyfriend” for Barksdale AF Base. Stage managed and wrote Shreveport Press Club Gridiron show. SD New Heritage Th. Inc. 1968 2 original musicals: “The New Black Crook’, “Chinchilla!” (directed/produced); Del Mar series of 1 act plays 1973. For Women’s Ensemble Theater, he did sound design for “Uncommon Women” and others. SDG&S 84 Patience, 85 Orpheus, 86 Iolanthe, 86 Savoy; 87 Florodora, 88 Yeomen, 88 Utopia Ltd., Theater has been a lifelong passion. In 1981 he had already written a 50 minute traveling show, “Songs for a Queen”, which toured the San Diego schools for the SDG&E outreach program. In 1986 he wrote “The Savoy Theater Cat”, an insider view of the Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration. Since retiring, Welton has written, produced and/or directed “The Gift of the Magi” (2001), “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2002), “La Pastorela” (2005), and “The Pirates of Point Loma” (2007). He was co-founder of the San Diego Press Club and is currently a member of SOHO’s board of directors.

Joyce L. Raines, lifelong resident of Lubbock, passed away on August 9, 2009 at her home at the age of 73. She was born on October 29, 1935 in Lubbock to the late M.M. “Jack” and Hazel Sullivan. I’m back from a 24-day, 8,000-mile road trip through 22 states and
one Canadian province in my Toyota Celica. Spent a week in Boston
doing some research and attending a ballet history seminar at
Harvard. Rode across Texas with my brother but otherwise did all the
driving myself. Holly joined me for the last week. Only mishap was a
nosedive spinout during a Northern Michigan blizzard. Friendly tow-
truck pulled us out and we were on our way within hours, only
slightly battered.
Saw Yellowstone Park, Kit Carson Museum, Custer’s Last Stand site,
top of Mississippi River, U.S. Fencing Hall of Fame in Shreveport,
great-great-grandniece of Jaguarina (complete with family bible and
10 ancient pictures), Trader Joe’s of Boston (a back Bay
storefront!), Harvard Faculty Club, a live wild wolf and many motel
rooms.
Now I’m back, determined to stay put for a long while and ready to go
to work on the many projects that have been postponed.

Kathryn, Jo-Ann Turnbough Anthony’s daughter, just called. Our class secretary, 1954 All-Westerner Girl, and co-editor of the 1954 LHS annual, Jo-Ann Turnbough Anthony, died this morning in College Station, her home, after a long struggle of 13 years with cancer and leukemia. She has two daughters, Kathryn of Houston, and Elizabeth of New Jersey and three grandchildren. She told me on January 15th, when we were at her home, that she was going to come to the 55th reunion. She and Ray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 17th. We will be going to the funeral. She was a great friend since the second grade, and Joan’s best friend.

Burford was born May 16, 1936 to Rosa Mae & Emmett Burford in Lubbock, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University. Bill has been President and owner of Texas Art Gallery for over forty years. He conducted auction sales specializing in Western and European art, antiques, silver and rare wines for over 30 years. He also held a Texas Auctioneer License. Through the years, he has conducted auctions for numerous charities including Art About Town, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Houston Grand Opera, Notre Dame School, The National Kidney Foundation of Texas, Northwood University, Texas Tech University and the Wesley Rankin Community Center. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Methodist Health System Foundation & Committee of Trustees for Highland Park United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Patricia K. Burford; daughter, Sherrie Schork & husband Alan & their children, Erin Bridges & husband Lee & Sara Schork; stepchildren Debbie Leeuw, Vicki Leeuw, Jim Leeuw & wife Sheri & their children, Tyler, Taylor, Jordyn, Blake, Hunter, Patrick & Ella. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad Leeuw. Memorial services will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the main sanctuary, Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10 am with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. A reception will follow the service at Texas Art Gallery, 5570 West Lovers Lane, Inwood Village Suite #396. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas Tech University Scholarship Fund, Methodist Health System Foundation or Highland Park United Methodist Church.

Wednesday, Robert and Kenneth were coming out to visit me to see my blacksmith shop, etc.; however, they had to return to El Paso that day, and I did not get to see them. Yesterday ( 1-21-09 ), Robert passed away. Probably a heart attack. Kenneth will let me know. Sad.

He coached for the Lubbock schools for six years and was coaching there when the Lubbock Westerners won two state championships. Passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008. Kay Roberta Hintz grew up in the Midwest, with stops in Iowa, Oklahoma, and Texas. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954, and attended Texas Tech. She moved to the Bay Area in 1960, where she met Russell Frances Kirk, the man she would marry and raise a family with. After 45 years of life together, Russell passed away last August after losing his own fight with cancer.
Kay was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid crossword puzzler who rarely missed the daily puzzle and always had her trusty dictionary by her side. She enjoyed creative endeavors such as painting and sewing, as well as traveling, cooking, reading, and piecing together the occasional jigsaw puzzle. In addition to raising three kids, for many years Kay operated her own bookkeeping business and later worked at various day care centers, loving the babies.
She is survived by her children Mitch, Brian and Susan, her granddaughters Leah and Nicole, her sister Ann and brother Karl, and several nieces and nephews and their families. We love her dearly and she will be greatly missed. San Jose News

dccamerabug@verizon.netIt is with great sadness that I tell you that Kay Hintz Kirk passed away last week 3-29-08. her husband, Russell, died last August after a brief battle with cancer, and Kay just couldn’t live without him. She was hospitalized in January, and her sister went to CA to help her. After Ann left, her kids got nursing help at home, and Kay seemed better for awhile. She was hospitalized again 2 weeks ago, and just couldn’t make it.
Kay and their children, Mitch, Susie, and Brian (and 2 granddaughters) had a wonderful celebration of Russell’s life last October at their favorite restaurant in Sunnyvale CA. I was so happy to be able to attend. Understandably, Mitch, Susie, and Brian are devastated now, and can’t cope with another big memorial service. There will be a private family ceremony.
I will send another message after I get addresses for sympathy cards.

I just wanted to let you know that we have moved Dad to Littlefield. He
is in a nursing home there. The home is called Littlefield Hospitality. He is in room 8. It is just going to be better for him to be around more family. I have two sisters and a niece that live in Littlefield and, of course, Dad’s two sisters live in Lubbock. I think the more visitors that he can have the better. This place seems to be very good and are going to continue with his therapy five days a week.
It was very hard for me to leave him there and come back to Abilene. I am going to miss him being around me and my kids everyday. If you could just get an e-mail out to everyone and let them know where he is and how he is doing, I would appreciate that very much.

Subject: Update on Charles MooreMr. Box,
I am writing to update you on what is happening with Dad. He is now in Mesa Springs skilled nursing unit here in Abilene. Progress is very slow. We are looking at long term nursing home care. I have had to make a hard decision concerning this. I would love for Dad to stay here in Abilene with me at a local nursing home, but it is getting very difficult for me. I am now 7 months pregnant and with the new baby coming soon, my time will be very limited. My sisters and I have decided to move Dad back to the Lubbock area where we have more family that can tend to Dad on a daily basis. Both of my sisters and a niece live in Littlefield, and we have found a very nice nursing home there for him to stay, Littlefield Hospitality. My sister also knows the physical therapist there and, hopefully, he can get more personal care and rehab. Hopefully, we will get Dad moved in the next week or so. Also, moving him closer to Lubbock, both of his sisters (Beverly and Sharon) will be able to help out and visit more often. We just feel that it will benefit Dad more to have more visitors on a daily basis.

Thank you for checking on Dad. I’m not sure where we last were when you heard from us. Dad went to the rehab facility and was doing pretty good, but then had another stroke and had two blood clots go to each lung. He spent about a week in the critical care unit. He probably should have died instantly. He has hung in there and is medically very stable and going through some more rehab in the skilled nursing unit at Hendrick Medical Center. He still doesn’t talk and can’t move his right side at all. It’s hard to tell what is going on in his mind, but he appears to be very angry and not wanting to participate a whole lot in rehab. If this continues, the hospital will probably not recommend a rehab facility and will send him to another skilled nursing unit, possibly long term nursing home care. They will make their decision by the end of this week. Please pray that dad will understand and start working harder in therapy.
I feel like they have just basically given up on him and are tired of working with him. We are at the mercy of the physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Dad is progressing some, but not fast enough to make a good impression on them. Please just pray that they won’t give up on him and will recommend him for a rehab facility. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.

My name is Tonie Ball. I am Charles’ 2nd daughter out of 3, Connie being the oldest, and DeeDee (Deanna) being the youngest. Connie and I live in Littlefield (West of Lubbock) and DeeDee in Abilene. I thought I would take a minute and thank each of you for all of your wonderful words of encouragement that you have sent to Dad and give you each an update on his condition.
Dad is in Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene. We helped him move to Abilene in 2001 after the loss of our mother in 2000. He has lived there since, enjoying his grandchildren of DeeDee’s (Deanna). She has 2 boys and one on the way (due in April). He has been working part time and golfing a lot.
He was in great health until the day of his first stroke on Oct. 28, 2006. He had another stoke on Sat., Nov. 11th and had a blood clot in his lung and one in both legs. He was in ICU until Sat., Nov. 25th and now is in room 3707.
Please feel free to call the hospital and go and visit anytime. The direct phone number to his room is 325-670-3707. He would truly love to see all of his old friends that he could.
I’m sorry to report, at this time, he isn’t talking. His first stoke left him to where he can’t talk or swallow. He does know what people are saying (we think) for the most part. He responds by shaking his head and squeezing our hands. We have all of your precious emails and will be reading them to Dad as soon as he recovers enough to understand them all.
DeeDee is the one that lives in Abilene and is by his side daily; Connie and I try to go on weekends. Please feel free to call DeeDee anytime at 325-721-2094 and leave a message if she can’t get to the phone. She will be more than happy to hear from you and answer any questions you might have. Thank you again, for all of your thoughts and prayers, and we will do our best to keep you informed.

It seems as if Joanne is one that will be missed by many. She has been a very special person in many of our lives. It is an especially unusual time for Darwin and me as 52 years ago last night Joanne played the organ at First Christian Church for our wedding! Charles Moore had a stroke 3 weeks ago (he played 18 holes that day). The stroke left him unable to walk; also, he could not use his hands and could not talk. After he started to improve, they moved him into therapy.Yesterday, he was moved back into ICU due to a blood clot in his lungs. However, he can understand when his daughter talks to him. Well, it has been one (1) week since folks started cutting and slicing on various parts of my aging body. As a result I have a hole in the top of my head that is larger than a silver dollar, two (2) slashes on my neck that have never hurt and what looks and feels like a large burn spot on my left leg, up pretty high. This is the one that hurts. I have been reminded that this is very much like a by-pass patient that has veins/arteries removed from his leg to patch in the heart. In my case, this is where they got the skin to graft to the top of my head.
The medical report this morning is basically ” There Ain’t No Cancer Anywhere “. All the pathology tests came back negative.
Again, I am positive that all this GREAT news is the result of you and so many others placing me on your prayer list and keeping me there. Patty and I thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. I’m gonna take it easy about another week and then ‘full speed ahead’ back into the battle.

I called Benny today. He is in a rehabilitation house down the street from Seton Hospital in Austin. He is doing very well. He has had a rejection rate of R-2, but they believe that rejection can be controlled with medication, so they are not too worried about that. Benny is looking forward to getting back on the golf course and doing some traveling. He got the heart of a 62 year old man who died in Seton Hospital. The man had had by-pass surgery, but the heart is beating at a 70 rate, and they say a 60 is excellent.Benny’s heart was beating a 15-20, so he is getting some circulation that he has not had for while. The report is very good for complete recovery. Charles Flowers has visited with Benny in the hospital, but Benny said that
luckily that visit did not cause him a relapse. Thanks for reminding me to report.

Old Classmate?
Have you been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking...surely I cannot look that old? You may enjoy this short story, which could be true....
While waiting for my first appointment in the reception room of a new dentist, I noticed his certificate, which bore his full name.
Suddenly, I remembered that a tall, handsome boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 50 years ago.
Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate.
After he had examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended LHS. "Yes," he replied.
"When did you graduate?" I asked.
He answered, "In 1954. Why?"
"You were in my class!" I exclaimed.
He looked at me closely and then asked, "What did you teach?"
